ARISTA'S BOYFRIEND

Chapter 1

After the leave of Ariel from the sea it left some people in deep sorrow. Arista in particular was miserable. She and Ariel had not really gotten along very well most of their lives but after being beached two years earlier they grew very close. All the time that was lost between them was gained back. You knew what family meant when you saw Arista and Ariel together having fun. Though Arista was still very close to all of her other sisters she always liked Ariel best. Arista was the only other mermaid of the seven daughters of Triton who did not mind Ariel’s interest in human objects. She never wanted to be human like her sister Ariel but she did have an interest in exploring sunken ships and visiting Ariel’s grotto with her. On the day of the wedding of Ariel and Eric, Arista felt happy for her sister but also betrayed. “Why did she leave me behind for a person she did not even know,” thought Arista. But when she saw the way Ariel looked at Eric all she could feel was extreme happiness for her sister. Ariel always was one Arista thought that loved the sea but was not meant to live in it.

Three months had passed since Ariel had left the sea and Arista was in a miserable state. To make things worse her boy friend Luke had just broken up with her. Arista sat in her room tears flowing out of her eyes as she hung up the phone. Arista did not notice it as she lay crying silently on her bed, but her tail changed from the original red color to a dark depressing blue. Her hair also changed to a dark black much like her sister Alana’s.

An hour later she got up and oblivious to her changes went to the dinner table. As she sat down at the dinner table she took some seaweed pasta and started to eat. Triton looked up at his third eldest daughter in shock. He dropped his fork and stared at his daughter mouth wide open in shock.

Father what is wrong, said Arista.

Arista look at yourself, answered Triton.

Arista looked down at her tail to see that it was a dark blue and then pulled her hair over to where she could see it to find it a dark black.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh screamed Arista.

Daddy what has happened to me asked Arista.

I don’t know Arista but we will find out just go back to your room, answered her father.

Later that night the doctor came by and examined Arista. As Arista, her father, and sisters sat there, waiting for the doctor to determine the cause for this strange change. The doctor finished the examination and told the family the verdict.

This is a very rare, unserious symptom of depression. It is usually caused by the death of a love one or a first heart break said the doctor. Before anyone could say anything Arista budded in.

So wait, your telling me that my perfect boyfriend not only broke up with me but my tail and hair changed color because of him, said an infuriated Arista.

Luke broke up with you! Said a shocked five sisters all together.

Yessssssssssssss, cried Arista and jumped right into her sisters arms.

King Triton escorted the doctor out and when they were in the hall said to him, thank-you doctor, I am sorry for the trouble it caused you. Teenage mermaids can be a handful sometimes.

Do not worry your majesty all is fine here, give your daughter this and she will revert back to her usual self. The doctor handed him a bottle and left.

Triton went to back into the room and told his other daughters to leave. Then he gave Arista the potion and her usual appearance returned.

Father, I need to leave the sea for a while, I wish to spend the season with Ariel and Eric. My pain is too much to bear right know and for it to subside I feel I need to spend some time in another place and then I can appreciate what I have in the sea.

Triton gazed at his daughter and smiled, “of course Arista we will leave first thing in the morning.”

Thank-you father, and Arista slept the rest of that night peacefully.
