NEW ARRIVAL

PART 2

The next day, the plan was set in motion. Nori wailed like a siren that morning, because she was hungry. Instead of having Melody automatically go in, Ariel went in. Nori kept screaming at first, but Ariel was so gentle, so caring, that she took her bottle without fussing. She even let Ariel burp her. The rest of the day continued in this manner. Whenever Nori cried for whatever reason, Ariel would go in and take care of it. It often worked. At the end of the week, Ariel and Eric decided to take the ultimate test. When Nori started to cry, they sent Melody in. Nori didn’t squirm when Melody picked her up, but she just kept screaming. Ariel went in. Nori stopped crying the moment Melody handed her to Ariel. Their plan had worked. They went back to Madame Ouspankyla the next day and told her of what had happened. She was obviously pleased. Nori no longer believed Melody was her mother and things had been put back to rights. But now there was another problem, but they couldn’t quite figure out what. A few weeks later, Ariel wasn’t feeling quite right. “Something’s wrong.” Ariel said to herself that evening. “I can feel it in my bones.” Ariel turned to her husband. “You don’t think another octoperson will threaten our family, do you, Eric?” she asked. Eric shook his head. “Unless Ursula and Morgana have another sister, which I doubt, there is no risk. But I still feel something isn’t right.” Ariel nodded. “Yes.” Ariel said. “Yes, I feel it, too.”
