Giant Seahorses are wild animals of deep, different from regular small seahorses who are intelligent and can talk.

The ending introduces Sea Biscuit, who will briefly reappear in the later episode Against the Tide.

It isn't always a bad thing when a parent is protective. This episode refers quite a bit to the Ariel-Triton relationship in the movie (or is that "foreshadowing?") with Ariel being rebellious, Triton being protective, and both being deeply stubborn.

During one Ariel's swims, she accidentally stumbles upon a Giant Seahorse corral, which is kept just outside of the city. In it she sees Stormy, a magnificent purple Giant Seahorse whom she's told is too wild to tame. Ariel finds herself sympathising with Stormy, whom she feels is a kindred spirit, desperate to roam free.

Asking Triton for permission to have Stormy turns out to be a bad idea, because he laughs in her face (literally) and then forbids her from going near the Giant Seahorse, whom he says is just too wild. He evens reminds her about the Baby Killer Whale Incident. The scene is actually almost exactly like the one in the film, right down to Triton's choice of words and Ariel sniffling with tears and swimming off. Ariel sneaks out to see Stormy anyway, and eventually releases Stormy from his ropes, and they ride off together.

Triton finds out what Ariel has done, and rides off on his own white stallion, with Sebastian, Flounder and the corral master in tow. Elsewhere, Ariel finds out that Stormy wants to go to the Wilderness, a part of the ocean that even she feels isn't safe, and she learns that sometimes it is a good idea to listen to your father's advice.

Quotable quotes

Ariel:All we have to is to convince Daddy to let me ride (Stormy).
Sebastian:We? You don't expect me to help. I keep my own business in me own nose.
Ariel:But daddy always listens to you.
Sebastian:Well, that's true.
King Triton:Why Ariel, You're certainly welcome to come riding with me. We have a nice tame old mare that would suit you just fine.
Ariel:An old mare? Oh, you're so funny, daddy.
Sebastian:Well, dat is most certainly dat.
King Triton:That is never that with her.
King Triton:I want you to guard that seahorse stallion. All night if necessary. Make sure no one goes near it.
Sebastian:No one.
King Triton:Especially no one with beautiful red hair who has a tendency to disobey her father.
Ariel:It's okay, there's nothing to be afraid of.
Sebastian:She'd say that if the ocean were full of sharks.
Ariel:Where's Stormy?
King Triton:That! ... That magnificent seahorse is just too wild for you.
Ariel:You're right, father.
King Triton:Now I'll hear none of it... I'm right? Did you hear that, I'm right!
King Triton:I don't like to say no to you, Ariel, but sometimes I have to because, because...
Ariel:Because you love me.
