Ariel has just saved Eric from drowning, and she finds herself falling in love. So she reprises her theme song to reveal
the determination in her promise to somehow join Eric's world. This sequence is one of those moments that shows power
in a character's delight, as Ariel herself has passed a point of no return. *Thanks to Joahn and Julie for
the lyric corrections.
What would I give to live where you are?
What would I pay to stay here beside you?
What would I do to see you smiling at me?
Where would we walk, where would we run
If we could stay all day in the sun?
Just you and me
And I could be
Part of your world
I don't know when
I don't know how
But I know something's starting right now
Watch and you'll see
Someday I'll be
Part of your world

The early draft for this song was significantly different in tone from what the final version ended up being. This
draft was included in the album The Music Behind the Magic with Alan Menken providing the vocals. The lyrics of this
versions are more melancholy, featuring an Ariel (if she was so named at the time) who is more accepting of what fate has
dealt to her. *Thanks to Mariah for submitting these.
What would I give to live where you are?
What would I pay to stay here beside you?
What would I do to see you smiling at me?
Now there’s a dream
Now there’s a goal
Now there’s a need I’ll never control
I won’t get free till I can be
Part of your world
What would I give if I could live out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day holding your hand?
I’d give my life
I’d sell my soul
‘Cause I can feel I’ll never be whole
But I can see
I’ll never be
Part of your world

The Broadway demo album features a "Part of Your World" reprise that has identical lyrics and an identical background
mix. The song still retains its strength throughout, thanks to Kerry Butler's sweet vocals.

Sierra Boggess of the original Broadway cast does a slightly different take of this song,
starting out slower and then building it up with her energy. Fans who know the original
song pitch-for-pitch would notice that she does something totally different from Jodi with
the last two lines of the songs, bringing in a new flavour of sweetness to the lyrics.
Ariel:
Was I too late?
Scuttle:
It's hard to say. Oh, I can't make out a heartbeat.
Ariel:
No, look, he's breathing. Oh Scuttle, just look at him. He's so beautiful.
