Positoovity: Broadway Demo Version

This is the second new song written for Scuttle in the Broadway demo recording, and it's sung after Ariel has just been transformed into a human and washed up on store. Scuttle and the seagulls would never turn their back on the red-head, so they give her tips on how to go about on her new quest as a human.

Scuttle:
Your problem ain't aptitude, it's attitude! And I got just the thing to take care of that.

Now look at me, you see this face
In terms of beauty, I'm a basket-case
And as for style and savoir-faire
Well, I guess there ain't a whole lot there

Yet although perhaps it makes no sense
I strut my stuff with lots of confidence
Cause though I lack an awful lot
There is one thing I got

I got positoovity
I got positoovity
It gives me the zam and a zow
And a yadda-laddle-laddle
That's why I walk with a wiggle in my waddle
Cause once you've heard that word
There ain't nothin' you can't do
So let that positoovity work for you

Sebastian:
Positoovity! Dat isn't even a word!

Scuttle:
Oh, sure, the power of positoovity takes a while to sink in. But believe me, I've seen it work wonders.

Now he's a schmo

Seagull 1:
Yo!

Scuttle:
And he's a schlep

Seagull 2:
Yep!

Scuttle:
And this one doesn't got the sharpest rep

Seagull 3:
Squawk!

Scuttle:
In fact all three without a doubt
Missed the day that brains was handed out

Seagull 1:
But if he's no sage

Seagull 2:
And he's no wiz

Both:
The whole world thinks that we are geniuses
(Squawk!)

Cause all our screws may be unscrewed
But dig our attitude

We got positricity

Scuttle:
How bout you?

Seagulls:
We got positivity

Scuttle:
Just try it out!

Seagull 1:
It gives us the bing

Seagull 2:
And the bang

Scuttle: And the yippi-dip-doodle

All:
That's why we sound like
There's knowledge in our noodle
And once you've heard that word
There ain't nothing you can't do

Seagulls:
So let that positricity

Scuttle:
Positrucity!

All:
Prusitrocity work for you

See with a bip and a bap and a ba-ba-boo
You can flip any flap till your wish comes true
The tip is the tap into something that you believe

Scuttle:
Cause with a zig and a zag and a zi-zuh-zee
There ain't nothing you can't be
You see, it's really your prerogative

All:
You simply can't ignogative

Scuttle:
Then there's you just sittin' there
Smack down flat upon your derriere
If that's the way you like to be
Well, you might as well be shrubbery

So stand right up
And dust your seat
And walk real tall upon your own two feet
And sure, you'll trip
And make mistakes
But you got what it takes

All:
You got positronimy

Scuttle:
Keep on truckin'!

All:
You got positiminy

Scuttle:
You go, girl!

All:
You got the woosh and the wump
And a doobie-doot-dootie
That oughta put some pizzazz in your patootie
And once you know that word
There ain't nothing you can't do
So let that positronimy

Seagull 1:
Positutery

Seagull 2:
Posiotomy

Scuttle:
Posilectomy

All:
Posotumery work for you!

We got pospituity!
We got pospitopoly!
We got us the zap and the zip and the wiki-wak-wookie

Scuttle:
That's how you slip extra chips into your cookie

All:
And now you know that word
There ain't nothing you can't do
So get some posilicity
You can bet on positricity
And just let that positrinity

Seagull 1:
Positrunity

Seagull 2:
Pusatimity

Scuttle:
Posatonomy

Sebastian:
Positoovity

Seagulls:
Positively work for you

Positoovity: Broadway Version

Scuttle's second song, Positoovity, opens Act 2 of the Broadway show, in which Ariel has arrived on land with her brand new set of legs. Although I was skeptical about Scuttle getting another song of significant length, the energy of it is great thanks to Eddie Korbich's singing, and on stage the dancing is a joy.

Scuttle:
What's this, you giving up so soon? You gotta have a little gumption, yeah. A "can do" kinda attitude. Take it from a gull who knows.

Now look at me, you see this face
In terms of beauty, I'm a basket-case
And as for style and savoir-faire
Well, I guess there ain't a whole lot there

Yet although perhaps it makes no sense
I strut my stuff with lots of confidence
'Cause though I lack an awful lot
There is one thing I got

I got positoovity
I got positoovity

That's why I walk with a wiggle in my waddle
Cause once you've heard that word
There ain't nothin' you can't do
So let that positoovity work for you

Sebastian:
Positoovity? Why, there's no such word.

Scuttle:
'Course there is, in the dictionary right between popsicle and prehisterical. Believe you me, I seen it work miracles.

Now he's a schmo

Seagull 1:
Yo!

Scuttle:
And he's a schlep

Seagull 2:
Yep!

Scuttle:
And this one doesn't got the sharpest rep

Seagull 3:
Squawk!

Scuttle:
In fact all three without a doubt
Missed the day that brains were handed out

Seagull 1:
But if he's no sage

Seagull 2:
And he's no wiz

Gulls:
The whole world thinks that we are geniuses
Cause all our screws may be unscrewed
But dig our attitude

We got positricity

Scuttle:
How bout you, huh?

Seagulls:
We got ploositivity

Scuttle:
Just try it out, c'mon!

Seagull 1:
It gives us the bing

Seagull 2:
And the bang

Scuttle:
And the yippi-dip-doodle

Gulls:
That's why we sound like
There's knowledge in our noodle
And once you learn that word
There ain't nothing you can't do
So let that positricity

Scuttle:
No no no no, positroocity

All:
Poositrocity work for you

Sebastian:
Ariel, don't take advice from bird brains.

Scuttle:
Bird brains? Who you callin' bird brains? We got natural talent. What I like to call "gull-ability".

Gulls:
See with a bip and a bap and a ba-ba-boo
You can flip any flap 'till your wish comes true
The tip is the tap into something that you believe

Scuttle:
Cause with a zig and a zug and a zi-zuh-zee
There ain't nothing you can't be
You see, it's really your prerogative

Gulls:
You simply can't ignogative

Scuttle:
Then there's you just sittin' there
Smack down flat upon your derriere
Hey, if that's the way you wanna be
Well, you might as well be shrubbery

So stand right up and dust your seat
And walk real tall upon your own two feet
And sure, you'll trip and make mistakes
But you got what it takes

Seagull 2:
You go, gulls!

Gulls:
And now you know that word
There ain't nothing you can't do

Scuttle:
So go get some posilicity
You can bet on positricity
And just let that positrinity
No, positroonity
Poositonimy

Is it - what, what is it?

All:
Positoovity
Positively work for you
