On this page I've attempted to list out the various albums and songs that were released in relation to the
Little Mermaid franchise, with links to individual song lyrics pages. Most of the albums are rated
from 1 to 10 on my personal Scale of Availability: 10 being super-common and 1 being super-rare. If
you have any info to add or spot any mistakes, whether in the lyrics or other tidbits I've stated, feel free
to let me know in the comments or email me at:
If you're looking for the lyrics of a specific song and don't want to go through
all these albums one by one, head on straight for the alphabetical listing of songs
HERE.
Some of the lyrics pages of this section contain audio samples. These are meant as
samples only, and have been clipped to less than 10% of the original song according
to unlicensed sampling criteria. The function of these samples are for information purposes
only. Please don't ask me for the full mp3s.
*The bolded titles are soundtracks for the original animated "The Little Mermaid" franchise. The others are
concept albums, cover albums, compilation albums, spin-offs, or adaptations.
With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, The Little Mermaid's original movie
soundtrack, released in 1989, was nominated for and won that year's Academy Award for Best
Original Score and Best Original Song ("Under the Sea"). The original soundtrack release has
the mostly-white cover on the left below, while the other covers are variants from 1997 and 1999.

Tracks with an asterisk (*) are instrumentals, and if you hover on the track name, there's a little
description of which portion in the film the music is used for. If you can't see that, I've listed out
all the descriptions on an instrumentals

Samuel E. Wright, the voice of Sebastian, released two dance albums in 1991, hot on the heels of the success of
"Under the Sea". Sebastian from The Little Mermaid and Sebastian: Party Gras! feature
Sebastian-style covers of various songs, some with Jodi Benson providing guest vocals in-character as Ariel.
Many thanks to Mermaid Zone for the scan of the Sebastian album.

In 1991, an album called Simply Mad About the Mouse was released, featuring established

Availability Scale: 2
1991 had the release of the thematic mini-album Ariel's Christmas Under the Sea, which
was a read-along story about Ariel celebrating Christmas [scans here!]
with three Christmas songs sung by the cast. This album was re-released in 2011 as Songs and
Story: Ariel's Christmas Under the Sea, but my understanding is that the content is the same. Many thanks to Carly for sharing this info!

The Little Mermaid's prequel series spawned the soundtrack album Splash Hits, which was
released in 1992. This album features a few songs from the first season of the series, along with other
songs that were written specifically for the album. Availability Scale: 5
Unfortunately, a number of other songs that were featured in the television series were
never officially released. I've listed those songs here for posterity's sake.
A concept album was released in 1992, entitled Songs from the Sea. This collection features completely
original songs that are "The Little Mermaid"-themed and were written specifically for this album that has an underlying story that
weaves the songs together. Jodi Benson reprises her role in-character as Ariel, and Samuel E. Wright reprises his role as
Sebastian. Many thanks to Jay for sending in the album cover. Availability Scale: 5

Musical theatre actress Debbie Shapiro Gravitte, who's been on Broadway and more, released a studio album

In 1994 a special workshop album called The Music Behind the Magic was released, featuring rough demo or
work tape versions of songs from "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin", all of which had to undergo
tremendous changes before reaching the final versions in the films, and some songs didn't make the final cut at all. The first
disc of this collection is dedicated to "The Little Mermaid", and contains a mix of demo and work tape versions (many featuring
Alan Menken and Howard Ashman on vocals) as well as final versions of various songs.
Many thanks to Marissa for some needed info. Availability Scale: 4

The 1996 album Music from the Park is technically a cover album, for it features covers

album. Availability Scale: 1

House of Mouse was a clever concept/crossover tv show where characters from the
extensive Disney canon would "hang out" together in Mickey's club to have fun, perform and watch
cartoon shorts. Ariel and her cast were among the characters that made appearances there, and there
were two original songs that featured some familiar voices. Availability Scale: N/A

Mickey's Magical Christmas:
Snowed in at the House of Mouse (2001)
From 2002 to 2010, there was a surge where the classic Disney franchises were given hip make-overs (so to speak),
culiminating in numerous Disney Mania pop-oriented covers of various classic songs, many of
which were performed by Disney Channel stars. "The Little Mermaid" was not spared, and the
following songs were recorded for the Disney Mania albums. Availability Scale: 5-8
In 2002 there was the release of Radio Disney's Pop Dreamers, a doll line that came
with a pop rock remix album, aka Disney Princesses meets Disney Mania. In this reimagining, there's a
band consisting of Ari, Ella and Gabrielle (aka remix versions of Ariel, Cinderella and Belle), voiced
by Julie Griffen, Patty Mattson and Nadia Fray respectively, and they want to make music and chase their
dreams. They don't sound much like their original namesakes, but the concept is interesting and unusual.
Many thanks to Lii for helping out with these. Availability Scale: 4
The massive Disney Princess franchise recruited the voice actresses of the various Disney
Princesses (at least, those of whom are still with us) to sing in-character for various original songs put
together for the Disney Princess music albums and DVDs. Naturally, Ariel as Jodi Benson is featured in some of
these songs. I need help with the lyrics, so anyone who can make out the words better than me please do
drop me a line. Many thanks to Joel for helping out. Availability Scale: 6-8
Disney's On the Record is a musical revue that toured in 2004-2005, with a
recording that was released in 2005. In this show, a small cast (Kaitlin Hopkins, Brian
Sutherland, Ashley Brown and Andrew Samonsky) sings an extensive list
of Disney songs, some of which are performed close to their original versions, while other
are remixed or combined in medleys. Naturally, a few songs of "The Little Mermaid"
are included as well. Availability Scale: 3
The original movie was given a Platinum Edition DVD release in 2006, and in conjunction with
that, the soundtrack was given a Special Edition re-release. This Special
Edition album has two discs, the first disc being the original soundtrack
in its entirety. The second disc contains new pop-oriented covers, some of which were recorded for
the previous Disney Mania albums, and one of which (the Jonas Brothers cover) was recorded
especially for this album.

Along with the Special Edition of the soundtrack, a few other compilation albums were released
around the same time and occasionally included as "bonus gifts" with the Platinum Edition DVD.
One of these albums is The Little Mermaid and Friends and another is 10

the Sea"). Many thanks to Ashley for some of this info.

purposefully timed to coincide with the Platinum DVD release. The album contains karaoke/instrumental tracks
of the film's songs, along with newly recorded covers specific for the album.

In July 2007 a live-action theatrical version of "The Little Mermaid" arrived on stage, with a Broadway
opening in January 2008. It's a new interpretation of the film with sparkling special effects to create
a unique live-action experience. An Original Broadway Cast Recording was pretty
much a-given, showcasing all the classic favourites, plus some brand new tracks for fans to enjoy.

The Little Mermaid: Original Broadway Cast Recording
The Broadway production closed in 2009, but in 2012 it was revamped and given new life via
international and regional US productions. The revamped versions features changes to the book,
and among those changes is a new song for Ursula, replacing "I Want the Good Times Back". As
far as I know, an English recording of this song has yet to be officially released anywhere,
though Dutch, Russian and Japanese-language versions are available out there.
Visitor Joel shared with me that there's an unofficial karaoke album of the Broadway show. This album was released
in 2008, and contains rerecorded studio tracks with its own cast, as well as the instrumental versions for karaoke.

info here.
The 2008 prequel movie The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning is all about music, so it's natural
that it contains a couple of songs in it. I'm surprised there hasn't been a soundtrack released along
with it, because that's what they did with "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea". Oh well.
In 2008 there was a special concert at the Lyceum Theatre in London, hosted by Josh Groban and titled
BBC Radio 2 Celebrates the Music of Disney. Various performers joined in celebrating the
music of Disney through the ages, and naturally "The Little Mermaid" got its little section. Of
interest, Kerry Butler, who'd had the role of Ariel in the Broadway demo, got to reprise the role here,
and she's accompanied by Titus Burgess, the original Broadway Sebastian, Drew Sarich as Eric and Adam
Pascal as King Triton (heh).
Songs and Story: The Little Mermaid (2010) is part of a series of "Songs and Story"
mini-albums for various films, where a few songs are accompanied by a narration of the film. In
this case, the narration is the old Roy Dotrice version from the 1991 read-along books, and the
songs are two Sebastian tracks, and two covers of Ariel's songs by singer Ayana Haviv.
